Fall Shoesies: Middle Figure

Shoes are the roots from which your entire ensemble blooms. They store riches of fashion nutrients: color, texture, shape. All while cradling the stems of your legs, giving structure and balance to your entire figure.

And just as a water lily grows differently than a daffodil grows differently than alyssum, so do the blossoms of our bodies benefit from different roots. Let us commence with the flower of the Middle Figure. It’s featured Fall choice: the Wedge.

The acute angle of the wedge heel provides height, allowing a dainty ankle to appear ever so much more dainty, while maintaining substance, ne’er looking overwhelmed by a full center. Proportional in lush diversity. Just ensure the wedge tapers narrowly towards the back. If left unshapen in a thick platform mass, it will visually swell your ankle stalks.

Rachel, thanks! Oh, the topics you come up with — just when it seems they are exhausted! May I suggest a post on scarves? So versatile, they can bring the simplest outfit quite alive, or freshen up color around the face. I am reluctant to venture into that world, being 1)petite 2)currently upper figured. But accessories truly are what a new mom needs at this time. Whaddya say?

Reachel- Thanks for the information on shoes. I am currently middle figure but have no wedges! Off to the store I go! Question: what is the difference between a wedge and an espadrille?

One more shoe question for the middle figure. I love the look of boots over jeans, but is there any way that I can pull it off without looking out of proportion?

    Jenny (of Jenny & Jared)-
In regards to your first question, an espadrille can be a wedge. This Pyrenees native has a canvas-cotton upper and a signature jute-rope sole. The fancied version of the espadrille displays a wedge of rope. Whether flat or elevated, these exotic shoes are a perfect match for casual summer strolls.

    Now Jenny-
In regards to your second question, boots over jeans is actually a figure-friendly trend. Skinny jeans are difficult for many a silhouette to balance, but with the sturdy stabilizing influence of a boot, the proportions begin to find equilibrium. When selecting a boot, go for a moderate (not too dainty) heel. More to come on this later.

Thanks Reachel! P.S. I love my fashion look book and also your blog. I’ve never considered myself fashion-challenged, but I’m definitely no expert either. After reading your blog I can put together a more polished look that goes with my figure. Thanks.
