Fall Fashion & Beauty: Moisturize

If you wish to know your local climate’s effect on your skin, inspect your indigenous soil.  My hometown’s earth is naturally arid, barren, and cracked. Should my skin be left unattended it would soon resemble my front yard complete with a patchy desiccant, stubble.
While regular moisturizing is a year-round responsibility in Arizona, my four-seasoned friends may be feeling the upcoming ravages of winter approaching.  I believe this fact justifies a robust discussion on body bedewing.

Face: I swath my face and neck bi-daily with Olay Regenerist because the routine never completes with greasy, sticky, or eye irritating aftereffects.  My complexion is left silky and soft.  However, beware of the self-tanning, sunscreen included version which is entirely inferior.
Now take this next statement with your critical cap attached, but my famous, emmy-award winning advertising brother-in-law reported that his television models engage in lengthy moisture massages.  According to these professional faces, time spent activating skin cell production is even more important than the moisturizing product itself.
Body: I acquired this beauty ritual from daughter Coco.  Every morning she gets a warm bath followed by a full body rubdown.  This luxurious process inspired my envy.  Upgrading from what I believed was an acceptable body wash moisturizing route, I added daily moisturizing to the process.  Everywhere from my inner heels out to Billie Belly receives a generous dollop.  My formerly parched shins have been rejuvenated to their 13-year-old fresh to shaving status.  I adore Aveeno because it is free of smells and does not encourage my generous inner thighs to adhere to one another.
Lips: Lip balm quickly melts into the interior of my overheated purse when external temperatures rise above one-hundred degrees, I therefore opt to apply a healthy swab of Vaseline to my pout every night.

My hands get so dry that I have to make at least 1 trip to the doctor in the wintertime. Besides not washing my hands so much, they tell me to use something heavy-duty like Cetaphil creme and wear gloves overnight!

Extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil everywhere to moisturize. Face and body. Also great as a makeup remover, sunscreen, and used in my cooking.

I believe what you put on your skin soaks in so I use something that is okay to eat!

One drawback: it takes time to soak in.

Every other day I massage my face and neck with Arbonne’s 5-in-1 massage oil, then follow with a generous dollop of Arbonne’s night creme (ok the night creme I use every night). Body I use the 24hour remineralizing lotion.

I live in the desert too, and this has saved my skin from looking like parchment paper.

I’m pretty good about my face – my mom has been an Avon rep my whole life, so it’s tough to say no to “free.” I need to get back into moisturizing the rest of me more! (I’m one of those 4 season folks coming up on the scary winter, ACK!)
For summertime (humid here), I just use some of my favorite Lush Turkish Delight in the shower., all over. Just a touch of moisture.
I’ve got Jergens Original waiting in the wings for my fall/winter routine.

No matter how many times or how far I stray, I ALWAYS come back to Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizers: Gel for summer, Lotion for winter. It’s what my face tells me it needs, time and time again.

I am very allergic to chemical sunscreens in lotions (especially face). Clinique and Origins both offer face SPF that is chemical-free (albeit annoyingly tinted). But I also opt for mineral makeup that has naturally inherent sunscreen.

For my body: Mustella when pregnant, Eucerin at all other times (best for sensitive, reactive skin…so it’s awesome for winter itchiness).

Olive oil at night. Absorbs faster than coconut. Eucerin cream for the dry painful areas. Still refining my winter routine.

I recently discovered Aveeno for the face, and now use a daily moisturizer with spf. Love it. At night, I use Olay regenerist cream. I also adore Aveeno lotion for the body, too, and use Neutrogena Norwegian hand cream to ward off dishpan hands.

I do good quality coconut oil only, no petroleum, scented or synthetic chemical products for me.
