“In [a bad economy], we always see a surge in hosiery,” says Nicki Gondell, principal at Trend House, a fashion forecaster. “Maybe you can’t afford the ‘It’ bag, but you can have beautiful hose, usually under $25.” Below is the decorum for splurging on your gams.
one: stocking science, denier is the unit of measure for the linear mass density of fibers. In lay terms, a higher denier means a more opaque, more cozy stocking sheath. And when one dons a higher denier, one should couple it with a chunkier shoe. Meaning, the woolliest of legwear requires boots.
two: the lighter the hue, the heavier the leg. White stockings post pubescence may seem innocent, but in truth they are Lucifer legs. Not only do they thicken your stems look, but they’ll be irretrievably soiled after a single wear.
three: Wearing nude hosiery will associate you with two colonies: rest homes and umpa lumpas. Instead tint your legs with a fresh hue. To lengthen your legs, match your stockings to your shoes. But as long as you keep the ankle exposed feel free to mix rather than match
four: Not only will crocheted hosiery avoid runs above and beyond their sooth counterparts, but they will instantaneously elevate the most basic of ensembles. For a more sophisticated consequence twin this pair with a neutral or monochromatic frock.
Fashion Police: Wearing Leggings
I agree with all aspects of this short film, except that of matching heels with leggings. No one can tell me, “you can’t wear pumps with that.” no one.

I always love advice on hosiery. Thank you, my dear. Did you mean to say no one can tell you you CAN’T wear heels with that? That makes more sense to me. I hope to meet Coco one of these days!

Do you have any advice on skinny jeans for an mythical curves body type? I feel like they never look right unless tucked away in boots. Maybe I just can’t get away from the tapered jeans way of thinking, who knows…
Thanks

I love tights, but even if they become popular during bad economy, I am still not spending more than $10 on a pair, particularly when they will rip after a couple of wears.

Ciera-
There are a couple ways to proceed:
1. In between boots and flats, there are heels. Adding a little height will make you feel leaner.
2. Try a dress or tunic shirt over your skinnies. This will allow you to showcase your killer calves while keeping the full hips cloaked.
3. Rather than a fitted tee, try a floaty blouse. Balancing a tapered leg with a fuller top will make you feel more balanced.

Nylons will run after a couple of wears, but tights and textured stockings can last for dozens and dozens of wears. Even at $25, which is near the top end of hosiery prices, you could easily get it down to a $1/wear. The thicker the denier the longer they will last. And don’t be afraid to shop sales. I love Dillards for discounted stockings and almost everyone’s prices will descend in Februrary. Stock up for the spring and next winter.

A umpa lumpa! I like my neutral tights and I am not in the old folks home yet. I would think I need to dress my age. What to do? Grandma

Grandma Sue-
For a more mature leg that doesn’t say I just ran away from a retirement nurse, try:
1. A solid opaque tight in a neutral color: brown, black, gray, navy. (http://budurl.com/spanxtightend)
2. Fishnets, in a small net in a neutral palette. Nude fishnets are an excellent alternative to nude hosiery. Spanx makes a control top version (http://budurl.com/spanxfishnet)

Where do you find these fabulous videos! Thank you for the smile.
Is there an age limit on the tights?
Reachel Bagley, Stylist says
Laura-
There’s no age limit on tights, as you mature just opt for more neutrals and subtler patterns.

Thanks I have been wondering about this for awhile and I am so glad for your expertise.

Question: Why can’t I wear pumps with a legging?!
Reachel Bagley, Stylist says
If the pumps were too high and scanty(ie strappy stilettos) it could look less than classy. But I say wear those leggings with a reasonable peep toe heel.

How do you know when enough, is enough when it comes to accessories? I’m kind of a simple gal and when I put any accessory on I start to feel like I’m over doing it. It would be nice to have a way to gage myself. I would love it if you did a post on this topic.

Michelle, good question. I would be delighted to post on it. I’ll work it into the schedule.
