Guest Brand: Dear Golden

Disciples of Fashion, meet Dear Golden!

Name: Lauren
Age: 30s
City of Residence: Ypsilanti, Michigan

Pithy Title for your hybrid of Signature Style: 1930s Landgirl with a Neutral Habit and a Penchant for 1970s Ecclectism

Brief Narrative on your Personal Brand of Sartorial Fashion: Fashion is for everyday, there’s no excuse for sweatpants at the post office.

How old were you when you figured out your sense of style? 4th grade, and curiously a lot of things I liked then, I like now…take the plaid wool skirt in this post, I loved those in 4th grade and am still wearing them today!

Who is your style icon? I don’t really have one, my fickle mind flits about finding some new fashionable person to love every season, but all my icons are people of the past. I can’t find much I love about celebrities today.

What’s your best piece of fashion advice for women? Don’t be afraid to wear something you think you can’t, and I mean, if you love vintage hats, don’t bother asking, “where would I wear them?”. Who cares! Where them everywhere, anywhere, just wear them. And abandoned the phrase, “Oh I don’t think I can pull that off”, when it comes to something out of the realm of what you normally wear – just try it out!

Where do you shop when you want a bargain? always vintage, you get the best quality for your money, that’s for sure. i really don’t like buying things new at all, i don’t see much need for it.

Where are your top 5 places to shop overall?
Etsy
Silver Spoon Antiques (by my house)
Lost & Found Vintage (near me)
Anthropologie
Value World & The Salvation Army

What body issue do you dress around, and how?
Sadly enough, my hair! It’s really fine and gets flat easily and just drives me batty, I use hot rollers often, but usually default to a perky messy bun at the top of my head.

Age
A:34
K:32

City of Residence
A:Tacoma WA
K:Portland OR

Pithy Title for your hybrid of Signature Style
K: delicately detailed with a side of independence
A: feminine classic with a twist of trend

Brief Narrative on your Personal Brand of Sartorial Fashion
We embrace the heritage our grandmothers left us from a time when women were women. we encourage more skirts and dresses in everyday life.

How old were you when you figured out your sense of style?
A & K: we are always evolving in our styles but we both realized this happened around the age of 8 (the age of accountability). but we both still remember outfits we wore to kindergarten, 1st grade, second grade and so on.

Who is your style icon? unknowingly we had the same answer (not surprised though) ZOOEY DASCHANEL (because she can be modern or vintage with her feminine charm always present)

What’s your best piece of fashion advice for women?
A & K: “try it. you’ll like it.” if you have any inclination towards something don’t tell yourself “i can’t pull that off.” JUST TRY IT ON. Where do you shop when you want a bargain? A: MACYS. they always have awesome sales and send lots of great coupons in the mail.
K: Forever 21. Always great for accessories, and even a cute ruffled blouse for layering.

Where are your top 5 places to shop overall?
A: ebay, anthro, gap, macys, thrift stores.
K: the majority of my closet is Anthropologie, that is where I find my foundation and statement pieces, then I mix and fill in around them with, vintage, Gap.

What body issue do you dress around, and how?
A: tummy. i wear belts above the bulge or flowy tops. also, jackets and vests tuck it all in.
K: My ARMS {hands down:)!} this is the only place I gain weight. I always throw on a cardi or jacket to hide them, sometimes I even have to alter shirt sleeves (meaning they need a slit with button added, because my arms measure 2-3 sizes bigger than the rest of my body.
